Weakness, Fatigue, Pain, or Poor Sleep?

Updated: Sep 9, 2023

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin used by the body for bone development and maintenance by increasing the absorption of calcium, magnesium, or phosphate. The most common side effects of low Vitamin D levels are: skeletal demineralization (can cause fibromyalgia, osteopenia, osteoporosis, or degenerative joint disease), muscle weakness, fatigue, or general aches and pains. Low Vitamin D levels can be caused by: sunlight deficiency (directly onto your skin without sunscreen), dark skin, aging, certain medications, living at higher latitudes, or internal dysfunctions with the parathyroid, liver, or kidneys. Vitamin D deficiency is associated with increased risk of hypertension, schizophrenia, bone fractures, cancers, and obesity.

Vitamin D Deficiency is one of the more prevalent deficiencies a lot of us experience. If any of the common symptoms mentioned above describe you, this is for you. The reality is, most of us work indoors under LED or flourescent lighting (light through windows does not count) and with most of our body covered a large portion of the year. The biggest symptom I notice when not supplementing with Vitamin D, is low energy and muscle weakness. The best way to confirm if you have good Vitamin D levels is through blood work, so get checked if you are not sure.

Maintaining optimal Vitamin D levels will help your skeletal system, whether it be muscle growth or bone health to prevent fractures or osteoporosis or recover from an injury. An important component to Vitamin D3 supplementation is combining it with Vitamin K2. Without K2, D3 will not be absorbed into the muscles and bones and can cause calcium build up in your arteries.

Vitamin D supplementation is simple and very affordable. Thorne Labs has the combination of Vitamin D3 + K2 that will give you the benefits of D3 and the K2 will assist with any arterial calcium build and optimize the D3 absorption.
